Colour and Noun Book

Colour and Noun Book

These books are a good resource for expanding vocabulary and for children who are learning to put two words together to describe things. Children match the symbol for the colour and the object on each page. For example 'red' and 'tomato' or 'yellow' and 'sun'.

Each page has a Picture Communication Symbol of an object, with each object a different colour. Underneath each symbol there are two squares. In the matching book these squares have symbols - one for the colour, and one for the object. In the blank book these squares are empty.

Have the children tell you what the picture is on each page, then have them find the matching cards and put them on the corresponding square.

Once the students have found the matching cards, have them read or say the words to describe the picture.

Preparation of this resource:

Print each page and laminate all except page 11 which are the matching cards. These need to be cut and then laminated.

Place ‘furry’ Velcro on each of the small squares on each page. Place ‘sticky’ Velcro on the back of the laminated matching cards.

Matching cards could be stored on the back of the previous page or on an extra page at the back of the book.
