Receptive
Receptive language refers to a student’s ability to understand (comprehend) a spoken message. This includes being able to understand language concepts and vocabulary as well as remember and interpret spoken instructions, sentences and questions.
Difficulties with receptive language may present as:
· Inability to follow instructions
· Difficulty responding to questions appropriately
· Difficulty following conversation/ understanding what is being said.
These children may (at times) have:

a confused expression

Seem as if the child were ignoring you

an inappropriate response to your questions or conversation.

an emotional response (frustration, challenging behaviours)
