Weekend News

This template assists students in creating a simple recount of some events they participated in over the weekend. The recount focus is on selecting one or more events, being 'what' had happened; selecting a person or people that they were with, being 'who' it happened with; and the way it made them feel, being 'how'.

This template is an example of an introduction to recounts as it draws on three parts which can present as the introduction, body and conclusion.

This could be used with students who may need visual supports in reading and communicating, students who use PCS to communicate, and students who may need a prompt to make creative texts.

Students can point or circle the PCS, fill in the blanks, copy or write the sentences on separate paper. Students could also illustrate their text and use the PCS as visual cues to create relevant images.

Students can point to the PCS; read or discuss their recount with an adult, a peer, in a small group or to the whole class.

This resource could be adapted with different sizes and different amount of options for student, could introduce 'where', could change the template to suit other times other than the weekend providing the students with opportunity to identify 'when' the events took place and differentiating the text and PCS cues to suit multiple abilities.
