Word Grammar (Morphology)

Morphology refers to the study of morphemes.

Morphemes are considered the smallest meaningful unit of language. Morphemes are added to nouns, verbs and adjectives to provided meaning. For example: -ed when added to verbs implies past tense, -s when added to nouns implies a plural.

Difficulties with word grammar/ morphology may present as:

·     Confusion between tense. Omitting or misusing word endings such as -ing or -ed to indicate when something his happened. for example the child may say 'I playing it' when talking about something they did yesterday.

·      Inability or difficulties using articles such as ‘a’ and ‘the’

Omission or misuse of other grammatical structures such as possessive words, pronouns, and plurals.
